A place that belongs to them

Slow, rhythmic motion is one of the oldest ways of settling a child. Most parents find it long before anyone gives it a name — the rocking in the hallway at 2am, the swing at the park on a bad afternoon. The Cocoon Swing brings that indoors and hands the controls to the child.

The enclosed shape does something the motion alone doesn't. Soft fabric walls close most of the room out, so what's left is a book, a soft toy, or nothing at all. For a child who has had a loud day at daycare or school, the difference between a beanbag in the corner and an enclosed nest is the difference between resting and still being in the room.

Children use it differently as they grow. A three-year-old climbs in to swing and shrieks. A six-year-old takes a book in and disappears for half an hour. What matters is that the child goes there on their own, before anyone suggests it. That is when it is doing its job.

Made to last past the early years

The cocoon is sewn from soft corduroy over a generous round cushion, so it holds its shape instead of collapsing around the child. It hangs from a single ceiling hook, included in the box, and takes a load of up to 80 kg when fitted into a solid ceiling joist — well beyond what the early years require.
