Modular Play Sofa for Children, Cow, 120cm

Twelve soft pieces in a rust-and-cream cow print: two double mattresses, two headrests and two armrests, plus the covers. Arranged one way it is a sofa. Taken apart it is a den, a tunnel, a ramp, or a wall between two siblings who need one.

Furniture the child rearranges

Most children's furniture is placed by an adult and stays there. A modular play sofa is the opposite: the whole point is that a four-year-old can pull it apart and rebuild it without help and without breaking anything. What looks like a mess on the floor is planning, balancing and negotiating — done at a scale the child controls.

Then at the end of the day it goes back together and is somewhere to sit and watch something.

Living with it

The covers come off and wash at 30 °C, which matters more than any other single feature. There are no hard edges anywhere, no frame, nothing to bang a head on. It is light enough that a small child moves the pieces alone.

The cow print is the loud one of the range — it makes children laugh. If you want the sofa to disappear into the room instead, the plain corduroy colours do that.
