A board on a roller is a different challenge from a curved rocker board. Nothing holds it in place: the roller moves freely underneath, and staying up means constant small corrections from the ankles, knees and trunk. Children who have outgrown a rocker board find this genuinely difficult again — which is the point.

The movement is the same one you make on a surfboard: weight shifting edge to edge, the body reading an unstable surface and answering it. That is why boards like this are known as surf balance boards, and why they hold a child's attention long after a static toy has stopped.

The rounded 75 cm board is the larger of the two. Its width gives a stable stance and room to shift the feet, so it suits older children learning the movement and adults using it properly. Rated to 100 kg, which is why it stays in the family for years rather than being outgrown.

The cork roller works on its own as a foam roller for stretching tight calves and backs, and the board doubles as a lap desk on a sofa or bed.
